Italian Limoncello
Golden and bright, this Italian specialty is the perfect summer refreshment: Limoncello is a delicious lemon liqueur, especially popular in Sicily and Naples. It's best served chilled, and is not only enjoyed as a drink, but also as an ingredient in cakes and ice cream. Now you can learn how to make this wonderful liqueur at home!
Ingredients
- 1 liter vodka
- 10 organic lemons
- 1 1/3 cups sugar
- 2 cups water
Instructions
- Wash and peel your lemons, making sure you only set aside the yellow part of the peel. The white part will make the Limoncello bitter.
- Place your lemon peel into a container and pour in the vodka. Let steep for at least four days. The longer the peel stays in the alcohol, the more intense the flavor.
- Bring the water and sugar to a boil, and then let cool.
- Once cooled, pour the sugar water in with the vodka and lemon peel. Using a funnel lined with a coffee filter, spoon or pour your mixture into a new container, leaving out the lemon peel.
- Transfer the Limoncello to a beautiful glass bottle, and place in the refrigerator to cool.
