It looks like a normal loaf of freshly-baked bread… until you cut it open to reveal the colorful explosion in the middle! It’s almost like something from a fantasy — magical food for elves or fairies. But now you can bring this rainbow of flavor to your dinner table with this easy recipe.
Tomato & Spinach Spiral Loaf
Equipment
- Baking pan
Ingredients
- 3 cups flour
- 1 egg yolk egg yolk
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1 tbsp butter
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tsp dry yeast
- 3/4 cup milk
- 2 tbsp spinach, boiled
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
Instructions
- To make the dough, put all of the ingredients except the spinach and the tomato paste in a bowl and knead it. Cover with a clean, dry dish towel and let the dough rise for one hour.
- Split the dough into three equal portions. One of them stays as it is while one is mixed with the tomato paste and the other with the boiled spinach.
- Now roll the dough portions out on a floured surface. Make sure to keep the dough at a size that will fit into a baking pan. Lay the rolled out portions on top of each other with the uncolored portion at the bottom. Now roll them together. Put the roll in a baking pan and bake for 20 minutes at 370°F.
