“Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” is one of the most famous tales from the Brothers Grimm. And if you liked the book, we have some great news! Now you can bring the fairytale one step closer to reality by recreating the magic mirror from the story in the comfort of your own kitchen — just follow the recipe. And don’t worry, unlike Snow White in the story, if you do fall into a deep sleep after eating it, it will only be because of the satisfaction that comes with enjoying a well-baked cake!

Ingredients
  

  • 21 oz butter
  • 17.67 oz sugar
  • 12 egg yolks
  • 2 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 21 oz flour
  • 12 egg whites, beaten
  • blue food coloring
  • 14 oz mascarpone
  • 1.75 oz powdered sugar
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 10 fl oz water
  • 10.5 oz sugar
  • 13.5 fl oz condensed milk
  • 8 sheets gelatin
  • 24.67 oz white chocolate
  • white food coloring

Instructions
 

  • First beat the butter with an electric whisk until it's fluffy. Then beat in the sugar. Then stir in the egg yolks, the vanilla flavoring and the flour, which you add in a little at a time. Finally, fold in the beaten egg yolks.
  • Divide the batter between five bowls in equal portions. Take the blue food coloring, put one drop in one bowl, two in another, three in a third and four drops in the last bowl. Stir the food dye into the portions of batter. One bowl should stay as it is.
  • Grease a large, rectangular baking pan and fill it with the five layers of mixture. Put the plain batter in the pan first, smooth it out flat, distribute the first dyed portion of dough on top, smooth it out flat and continue with all the layers. The dark blue batter should form the topmost layer. Bake the cake for one hour in a preheated oven at 320°F with the heat coming from above and below.
  • While the cake is cooling, cut an oval shape from some paper or cardboard. Make it large enough that it fits well on top of the cake. Place it on top and cut around it with a knife to give the cake an oval shape.
  • For the mascarpone cream, stir the mascarpone together with the powdered sugar and lemon juice until the cream has a uniform consistency. Spread the cream all over the cake with a spatula.
  • Heat water, sugar and condensed milk in a pan while stirring continuously and let the mixture come to the boil. Then let it cool down a little and stir in the softened gelatin. Next, add the finely-chopped white chocolate and a few drops of purple food coloring and then blend everything until a purple liquid forms.
  • Pour the glaze through a sieve and let it cool to 90°F. A kitchen thermometer can help determine the right temperature. While the glaze cools, place the cake a little higher, on top of an upturned bowl for example. Place a large pan or plate underneath the bowl. Then, pour the purple glaze over the cream layer of the cake. The plate or pan underneath will catch the drops as they run off the cake.
