Add a modern fast food twist to Grandma’s classic quiche recipe!

Yield: 1
Prep Time: 30 minutes
Cooking Time: 30 minutes
Difficulty Level: Moderate

Ingredients:

For the burger buns:

  • ⅓ cup water, lukewarm
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 tsp dry yeast
  • 3 tbsp milk, room temperature
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 egg
  • ¼ stick butter, room temperature
  • 1 tsp salt
  • black sesame seeds to sprinkle on top

For the quiche:

  • 3 eggs, room temperature
  • 1¼ cups heavy cream
  • 8 oz bacon, diced
  • 1 red onion, diced
  • 2 tbsp chopped chives

For the burgers:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 8 oz cheddar cheese, cubed
  • romaine lettuce
  • tomato relish
  • sour cream & chives dip

Instructions:

1. For the burger bun dough, combine the lukewarm water, honey, and dry yeast, add it to a bowl along with the room temperature milk, mix well, and let sit for 10 minutes. Add the flour, egg, butter, and salt to the yeast mixture and knead for 12-15 minutes until a smooth dough forms. Cover the dough ball and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour. After 1 hour, roll the dough ball out onto a floured work surface, run a rolling pin over it to release air bubbles, and then shape it back into a ball. Place the dough ball on a baking tray and cut out a circle with a 4-inch pastry ring. Slightly flatten the piece of dough you cut out and then use a 3.5-inch pastry ring to cut out the center of it. Place the cut-out piece next to the other 2 pieces and flatten it. Let all 3 dough pieces rise at room temperature for 30 minutes.

2. For the quiche, heat the heavy cream to 175°F, let it cool down, combine it with the eggs, and then stir in the bacon, red onion, and chives. Pour the quiche mixture into the 2 buns with the centers cut out, brush the remaining mixture over the dough, and sprinkle black sesame seeds over all 3 buns. Transfer the baking tray to a preheated oven and cook at 400°F for 20 minutes. After cooking, let the burger buns cool down for 30 minutes.

3. Combine the ground beef and cubed cheddar cheese. Form 2 hamburger patties from the mixture and cook them on both sides in a pan over medium heat to desired doneness.

4. Assemble your cheesy quiche burger and enjoy!
