What do raspberry passion fruit, wasabi, caramel macchiato, soy sauce, green tea, lemon, and ginger ale all have in common? They are all Kit Kat flavors in Japan. And there are nearly 300 other varieties of the famous candy bar, some more traditional, and some more bizarre. For the following dessert recipe, however, the regular milk chocolate version has been used, with the end result being good old-fashioned rich, chocolatey goodness. Is it a cheesecake, a brownie, or maybe just a giant candy bar? We’ll leave that up to you to decide!

  • 3.25 oz sugar
  • 0.5 fl oz coffee
  • 3.5 oz finely chopped chocolate (preferably dark)
  • vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 egg
  • 2 oz flour
  • 0.75 oz cocoa
  • 20 Kit Kat sticks
  • 15.75 oz cream cheese
  • 4.5 oz sugar

  • vanilla extract
  • 3.5 oz sugar
  • 4 fl oz water
  • 1.25 oz cocoa

Instructions

  • Bring the butter, sugar, and coffee to a boil, stirring constantly. Remove the liquid mixture from the heat and stir in the chocolate with a whisk. Stir in the vanilla extract, salt, and egg. Finally, stir in the flour and cocoa. Pour the mixture into an 8 in x 8 in square baking dish lined with baking paper and smooth out the batter.
  • Completely cover the batter with the Kit Kat sticks.
  • Mix the cream cheese with the sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract. Then pour the spread on the chocolate bars and smooth it out.
  • Bake the cake in a preheated oven for 30 minutes at 360°F.
  • To make the chocolate glaze: add the water and sugar to a stovetop pan on medium heat and bring to a boil. Remove from the heat and stir in the cocoa and couverture. For an added garnish, drizzle the chocolate glaze over the cake just before serving.
