  • Frying Pan
  • Piping bag

Ingredients

  • 18 sausage links
  • 7 oz red cabbage
  • 9 slices Swiss cheese
  • 3 sheets puff pastry
  • 1.5 lbs potatoes
  • 3/4 cup warm milk
  • 1/2 stick butter
  • salt & nutmeg to taste

Instructions

  • Fry all 18 sausage links in a pan and set 6 aside. Arrange the remaining 12 sausages in 3 rows on a sheet of puff pastry and cut it into 3 equal strips, making sure that the sausages are each lined up next to a cut edge of pastry.
  • Roll up the puff pastry strips.
  • Roll the 3 puff pastry rolls into a spiral and press the ends firmly together.
  • Spread the red cabbage in 3 rows on another sheet of puff pastry, cut it into 3 strips, and roll each one up.
  • Form the puff pastry rolls filled with red cabbage into another spiral.
  • Arrange rolled-up Swiss cheese slices in 3 rows on a sheet of puff pastry, cut the pastry into strips, and roll each one up.
  • Form the puff pastry rolls filled with cheese into a third spiral.
  • Fry each spiral on both sides until golden brown.
  • Peel the potatoes, boil them in salted water, and mash them. Mix with the warm milk and butter and then season with salt and nutmeg before transferring the mashed potatoes to a piping bag.
  • Pipe the mashed potatoes onto the puff pastry spiral filled with sausages and place the red cabbage spiral on top.
  • Pipe mashed potatoes on the red cabbage spiral and cover it with the cheese spiral. Decorate the cake with 6 mashed potato rosettes and cut off the ends of the remaining 6 sausages at a diagonal angle. Put 2 sausage ends together to form a small heart and place one heart in each mashed potato rosette.
