Halloween’s that one day of the year where creative costumes, spooky ghost stories, and serious trick-or-treating are not only expected, but heavily encouraged. And while everyone loves a good piece of candy and slice of pumpkin bread this time of year, so many of the other food categories – such as appetizers, finger foods, and snacks – really miss their chance to shine. But that’s about to change, because we think hearty themed food should be front and center at your upcoming Halloween party and these delicious witch finger weenies are the perfect way to set the mood!
Halloween Witch Fingers
Equipment
- Baking tray
- Parchment paper
Ingredients
- 8 hot dogs
- 4 sticks string cheese
- 2 sheets puff pastry
- 1 whisked egg for egg wash
- 2-3 tbsp tomato paste divided
- 8 almonds
Instructions
- Cut each string cheese in half lengthwise. Slice each hot dog lengthwise, making sure not to cut all the way through, and stuff it with a halved string cheese.
- Cut 2 sheets of puff pastry into 8 equally-sized rectangles. Lay each stuffed hot dog on a puff pastry rectangle and cut each sausage into 3 equal pieces.
- Wrap the puff pastry sheets around the hot dogs and seal the ends so the insides aren't visible. Use your fingers to squeeze the dough in the gaps between the hot dog pieces so that they look like finger joints. Finally, carve some small lines horizontally in front of and behind the areas of the dough you just squeezed.
- Place the 8 Halloween witch fingers on a baking tray lined with parchment paper and brush the egg wash over each piece.
- Decorate the "fingertip" of each Halloweenie with a dollop of tomato paste and one almond. Transfer the baking tray to a preheated oven and cook at 350°F for 20 minutes.
