Fish sticks are a quick and easy meal, adored by kids and adults alike. We wanted to take this classic childhood staple and make it even more delicious and fun to eat, so we came up with a recipe for a fish stick dinner that looks as good as it tastes! Layers of fish sticks, mashed potatoes, mashed carrots, and mushy peas all come together to bring you a perfectly balanced meal that goes way beyond your traditional fish sticks and fries. Finish the assembly off with some edible decorations and this yummy fish stick dome looks just like an adorable little crab. You and your family won’t be able keep your claws off of this tasty dinner!
Fun Fish Stick Dinner
Equipment
- 10-inch sieve
- 8-inch sieve
- Large Pot
- 8-inch bowl
- tall shot glass
- large serving platter
Ingredients
- 25 fish sticks slightly thawed
- cooking oil
- 4 large potatoes peeled & boiled
- 5 sprigs of rosemary
- 1 head of garlic
- 3/4 stick butter
- 1 1/4 cups milk
- 8 oz peas
- 8 oz carrots
- 1 cup sour cream
- juice & zest of 1 lemon
- 2 small bread rolls
- 2 hard-boiled eggs
- black olive, red bell pepper & lettuce for the decoration
Instructions
- Arrange the slightly thawed fish sticks in a round 10-inch sieve so that they reach the top.
- Place a round 8-inch sieve on top of the fish sticks, transfer both sieves to a large pot filled with hot cooking oil, and fry for about 10 minutes.
- Place the boiled potatoes in an 8-inch bowl and place the 8-inch sieve on top. Place the rosemary, garlic, and butter in the sieve, pour hot milk over the ingredients, remove the sieve, and mash the potatoes. Meanwhile, cook the peas and carrots. Mash ¾ of the peas and then stir in the other ¼ whole peas. Mash ¾ of the carrots and then stir in the other ¼ intact carrots. Divide the mashed potatoes in half and set one of the halves aside. Further divide the other half in half again, and fold the mashed peas into one of the portions and fold the mashed carrots into the other portion.
- Spread the mashed potatoes over the inside of the fried fish stick dome, followed by the mashed peas and then the mashed carrots. Use a tall shot glass to create a well in the center of the dish.
- Combine the sour cream, lemon zest, and lemon juice and pour the mixture into the well. Place a large serving platter on top of the fish stick dome, carefully flip the creation over, and remove the sieve. Use the small bread rolls, hard-boiled eggs, black olive, red bell pepper, and lettuce to turn the stuffed fish stick dome into a cute crab.
