You don't have to head to Chicago to enjoy a thick slice of deep-dish pizza – thanks to this recipe, you can make your very own pan pizza in the comfort of your own home. Stuffed full of fresh veggies, ooey-gooey cheese, and spicy sausage, every bite of this pie will have you thinking you're smack dab in the center of the Windy City.
Equipment
- Pan
Ingredients
- 5 oz broccoli
- 3 oz red bell pepper chopped
- 3 oz mushrooms sliced
- 9 oz sausage
- 1.5 tbsp flour
- 2 cloves garlic diced
- 1 tsp oregano
- salt & pepper to taste
- 7 oz crushed tomatoes
- 2.5 oz shredded mozzarella
- 7 oz pizza dough
- olive oil
- 7 pepperoni slices
- grated parmesan
- chopped parsley
- 16 oz flour for dough
- 1 tsp active dry yeast for dough
- 2 tsp sugar for dough
- 1 tsp salt for dough
- 2 tbsp olive oil for dough
- 8 fl oz lukewarm water for dough
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 250°F. First prepare the pizza dough using the above ingredients. Knead the dough until it no longer sticks to your fingers, form it into a ball, place in a bowl, cover with a dish towel, and leave in a warm place for about 20 minutes.
- Meanwhile, start on preparing the pizza filling. Cut small florets off the head of broccoli and add them to a pan, along with the chopped peppers and finely sliced mushrooms, and sweat the vegetables.
- Add the sausage to the pan and let it cook together with the vegetables. Add the flour and chopped garlic cloves, and season with salt, pepper, and oregano. Finally, stir in the crushed tomatoes, remove the pan from the stove, and sprinkle mozzarella cheese on top.
- Lightly flour your work surface and roll out the pizza dough so that it is slightly larger than your pan. Place the dough over the filling in the pan, lightly press down and seal the edges, and brush the entire thing with olive oil.
- Put the pepperoni slices on top of the dough, put the entire pan in the oven, and cook for 40 minutes. Garnish with parmesan cheese and chopped parsley.
