Cheesy Meatloaf Pastry Ring
This cheesy meatloaf pastry ring doesn't just impress with its delicious taste, but also with its unique look! By partially cutting the yeast dough into strips and then crossing them over the seasoned ground beef, you'll have a crispy meatloaf pastry ring with a creamy brie cheese core in no time at all!
Equipment
- Saucepan
- Baking tray
- Parchment paper
Ingredients
- 1/3 cup warm milk
- 1/3 cup warm water
- 1/2 tsp dry yeast
- 4 cups flour
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/3 cup vegetable oil
- 1 egg
- 1 whisked egg yolk for the egg wash
- 1 lb ground beef
- 5 oz crumbled feta cheese
- 4 oz bacon bits
- 1 onion, diced
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- salt & pepper to taste
- 1 brie cheese wheel
- 1 egg
Instructions
- Heat the milk in a saucepan over medium heat and stir in the water and dry yeast. Add the warm milk mixture to the rest of the ingredients and knead until a smooth dough forms. Cover the dough and let rise at room temperature for at least 1 hour 30 minutes, or preferably overnight. Once the dough has risen, roll it out into a large circle and place a plate upside-down in the middle of the dough. Cut strips into the dough all the way around the plate and then remove the plate.
- Combine the ground beef, feta cheese, bacon bits, and onion and season with ground cumin, salt, and pepper. Spread the ground beef mixture around the edges of the dough strips and shape the mixture into a ring.
- Fold the dough strips over the ground beef mixture, making sure to cross 2 strips over one another each time. Transfer the meatloaf pastry ring to a baking tray lined with parchment paper and let sit for 30 minutes.
- Brush the egg wash over the dough and place an oven-safe bowl in the middle of the meatloaf pastry ring. Transfer the baking tray to a preheated oven and cook at 350°F for 20 minutes.
- Cut off the top of the brie cheese wheel and make a small well in the cheese. Remove the bowl from the center of the meatloaf pastry ring, replace it with the brie cheese wheel, and crack an egg into the well in the cheese wheel. Cook at 350°F for another 20 minutes.
