It hangs out at festivals and street fairs, looks really cool, and tastes even better: the potato spiral. But why spend money on one potato, when you can buy a sack full, and easily prepare this delicious snack at home?
Potato Spiral
Equipment
- Wooden Skewers
Ingredients
- 4 medium-sized potatoes
- 1/4 cup melted butter
- 2 minced garlic cloves
- 1 tbsp chopped herbs (e.g. rosemary and oregano)
- salt and pepper
Instructions
- Wash the potatoes (it's not necessary to peel them) and push a long wooden skewer through each one. You may have to use a bit of force, but be careful not to break the skewer.
- Place a knife at an angle and cut into the potato until the knife meets the skewer. Now turn the potato, keeping the knife in place. This forms a spiral which, once complete, you pull apart carefully.
- Place the melted butter into a bowl, and add the minced garlic, herbs, salt and pepper. Mix well, and brush onto the potato spirals.
- Finally, bake for 20 minutes at 375 °F.

Notes
Spice up your potato spiral experience with ketchup or other dips. But honestly, these crispy, thinly sliced treats are also delicious all by themselves, and will earn their spot in your recipe book! If you're feeling adventurous, try using sweet potatoes. For an even crispier version, try frying the potato spirals. Enjoy!
