Equipment

  • Baking tray
  • Springform pan

Ingredients

  • 8 large potatoes sliced
  • 2/3 cup olive oil
  • salt & pepper to taste
  • 9 large slices of ham
  • 12 oz Swiss cheese grated
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups heavy cream
  • nutmeg to taste

Instructions

  • Wash the potatoes and cut them into 1/4-inch thick slices. Arrange the potato slices on a baking tray lined with parchment paper, drizzle olive oil on top, and season with salt and pepper. Transfer the baking tray to a preheated oven and cook at 325°F for 20 minutes. Remove the baking tray from the oven and let cool for 15 minutes.
  • Grease a 9-inch springform pan with butter and line the bottom and sides of the pan with potato slices. Place 3 large slices of ham on top of the potato slices on the bottom of the pan and grate about 4 oz of Swiss cheese on top. Layer potato slices, ham slices, and grated Swiss cheese 2 more times, making sure to gently press down each layer with your hand, and then add a final layer of potato slices on top.
  • Combine the eggs, heavy cream, salt, pepper, and nutmeg and carefully pour this mixture over the potato slices in the springform pan.
  • Transfer the springform pan to the warm oven and cook at 325°F for 1 1/2 hours. Let the ham & scalloped potatoes cake cool before serving.
