The cheeseburger is an absolute staple in the fast food world, and for good reason. Have you ever met a meat lover who didn’t like cheeseburgers? That’s right, because they can’t possibly exist! The only downside to serving burgers for dinner when it’s too cold to fire up the grill is that it takes way longer to cook multiple patties. But that won’t be a problem with this recipe, because it will let you feed several hungry mouths at once.

Equipment

  • Oven
  • Pan

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp fresh yeast
  • 1 tsp fresh yeast
  • 6 fl oz warm milk
  • 16 oz flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tbsp melted margarine
  • 1 tsp melted margarine
  • 2 tbsp sesame seeds
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • 3 lbs ground beef
  • salt & pepper to taste
  • oil for frying
  • 3 tbsp sugar
  • 5 fl oz whiskey
  • ketchup
  • mustard
  • lettuce
  • pickles
  • 3 tomatoes, sliced
  • 2 red onions, sliced
  • 10 oz melted cheese

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F and prepare the yeast dough for the bun. Dissolve the yeast in warm water, add the flour, salt, sugar, egg, and margarine, knead into a smooth dough, and leave covered in a warm place for 1 hour. Knead the dough again, shape it into a burger bun about 8 inches in diameter, place it on a sheet pan lined with parchment paper, and let it sit for another 10 minutes.
  • Press a bowl into the center of the bun and make 7 equidistant indents around the bowl.
  • Whisk the second egg and brush it over the bun. Sprinkle sesame seeds on top, and cook for 15 minutes until golden brown. Let the bun cool completely.
  • Season the ground beef with salt and pepper and form 2 XXL patties. Heat some oil in a pan over medium heat and fry each patty on both sides until cooked through.
  • Slice the cooled bun in half horizontally.
  • Garnish the bun with ketchup, mustard, lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, and onions.
  • Place one patty on top of the garnish, pour melted cheese over it, and top with the second patty.
  • Caramelize the sugar for a sweet smoky flavor, add the whiskey, and stir until the sugar has dissolved in the whiskey. Carefully ignite the liquid and pour it over the second patty.
  • Let the fire burn for a moment before you put it out with the top half of the burger bun.
