Equipment

  • Casserole Dish

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs apples
  • 1 tbsp white wine
  • 0.5 lemon lemon
  • 4 tbsp sugar
  • 0.33 cup raisins
  • 1 quart milk
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 0.25 cup butter
  • 4 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 6 oz cream of wheat
  • 4 eggs eggs
  • 4 tbsp cream
  • cinnamon & sugar for sprinkling

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 340°F. Wash and core the apples and cut them into thin slices. Set aside one handful of the apple slices and mix the remainder with white wine, the juice of half a lemon, sugar, and raisins.
  • For the porridge, heat the milk in a pot over medium heat and add the salt, butter, sugar, vanilla extract, and cream of wheat, stirring constantly so that the milk doesn't curdle. Bring the porridge to a boil, let cook for about 5 minutes, remove the pot from heat, and let cool.
  • Beat the egg whites until stiff and stir the egg yolks into the cream. Mix the egg yolk cream mixture into the porridge and then add the stiff egg whites.
  • Gently fold the apple slices that were set aside into the porridge and pour the mixture into a greased casserole dish. Spread the remaining apple slices on top. Bake for 40 minutes and sprinkle cinnamon and sugar on top after removing from the oven.
