13 Cookie Decorating Tricks That Would Even Impress Cookie Monster

A world without cookies would be a sad place indeed. And while some people will argue that it doesn’t matter what a cookie looks like since eating the cookie dough is the best part, others are adamant that it’s the overall look and design of the end result that really counts. And while it’s hard to resist a few nibbles of cookie dough as you bake, we have to say we agree with the second opinion on this one. In fact, these 13 decorating hacks are so enchanting, we’re pretty sure you’ll also feel the same way afterwards!

Simple Cookie Decorating Tricks

Equipment

  • Bubble wrap
  • bottle cap
  • straw
  • empty, clean beer bottle
  • a glass with a unique design on the bottom
  • Fork
  • Whisk
  • Small pan
  • Knife
  • deep fry skimmer
  • Apple corer
  • tupperware lid
  • Cooling rack
  • citrus juicer
  • uncooked bowtie pasta noodle

Ingredients
  

  • 8 oz flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 4 tbsp sugar
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 egg
  • 4 oz cold butter

Instructions
 

  • Combine the above ingredients, form the cookie dough into small round balls, decorate the dough as described below, and bake at 350°F for 10-14 minutes.
  • Place a clean piece of bubble wrap over each dough ball, press down on the bubble wrap with the palm of your hand, gently remove the bubble wrap, and cut off the dough edges to create a hexagon.
  • Push the bottle cap into each cookie and use a straw to poke 4 equal holes.
  • Press the opening of a beer bottle into cocoa powder and press it into the center of each dough ball.
  • Gently press the base of the glass into each dough ball.
  • Dip the back of the fork in cocoa powder and press it into the cookie. Repeat 3 more times to create 4 equal sides.
  • Dip the tip of the whisk in the desired colored and press it into the center of the dough ball.
  • Flatten 4 dough balls and place them together so that they overlap. Roll the dough up and slightly press down on the center of the roll. Cut the roll in half and use your fingers to fan out the petals.
  • Press each dough ball flat with the deep fry skimmer.
  • Press an apple corer into each dough ball, cut the indents, and use your fingers to shape the petals.
  • Push the center of the tupperware lid into each dough ball for a beachy look.
  • Divide the cookie dough into two batches and add the cocoa powder to one batch. For each chocolate cookie ball, form 5 small cookie balls from the light batch. Press a cooling rack into the chocolate balls and place one on top of the 5 small light balls, as shown in the video.
  • Gently press the citrus juicer into the center of each dough ball and fill the well with the jam of your choice.
  • Press the noodle into the center of each dough ball.
