Spiral Potato Dogs and Mashed Potato Corn Dogs
Nothing says spring like a juicy hot dog. And while they're certainly a classic and not something you'd ever turn down, sometimes it's good to mix things up a bit and try new things. That's why we've put our heads together to come up with 2 brand new twists on the tailgate and fair food favorites!
Ingredients
- 3 small potatoes
- 3 hot dogs
- 2 cups flour
- 2 tsp onion powder
- 2 tsp paprika
- 2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp pepper
- 3/4 cup sparkling water
Instructions
- Skewer the raw potatoes and cut a spiral all the way around each potato – the skewers will prevent the knife from cutting all the way through.
- Remove the skewers and use a potato peeler or apple corer to carefully pull out the center of each potato – the space should be wide enough to fit a hot dog.
- Skewer the hot dogs, stick 1 hot dog skewer inside the hollow center of each potato, and pull the potato spirals apart so that they completely cover the length of the hot dogs.
- Heat some cooking oil in a large pot to 350°F. Mix the flour, onion powder, paprika, salt, pepper, and sparkling water together with a whisk.
- Dip the spiral potato dogs in the batter and fry in hot oil until golden brown, approximately 3-4 minutes.
