If you’ve only been eating your hot dogs on a bun with some ketchup, mustard, and relish, you don’t know what you’ve been missing! Sure, the old bun and condiment recipe may be the standard go-to way to eat your dogs, but it’s a little boring, don’t you think? Actually, the humble hot dog doesn’t get nearly enough credit, so we came up with 3 recipes to showcase its versatile nature!

1. Hot Dog & Egg Flowers

You’ll Need (for 4):

  • 1 crescent dough sheet (or pizza dough sheet)
  • 4 hot dogs
  • 4 egg yolks
  • ¾ cup shredded mozzarella
  • 4 wooden skewers

Here’s How:

1.1 Preheat the oven to 350°F. Push a skewer through the far edge of each hot dog and make several equal incisions in the hot dogs, cutting down to the skewer but not cutting all the way through.

1.2 Remove the skewers and the end pieces and form the hot dogs into rings.

1.3 Use a small bowl that’s slightly larger than the hot dog rings to cut out 4 circles in the crescent dough.

1.4 Place the hot dog rings on the dough circles and use a toothpick to pull the dough into the spaces between the hot dog pieces.

1.5 Sprinkle some mozzarella cheese in the center of each hot dog flower.

1.6 Arrange the hot dog flowers on a sheet pan, place one egg yolk in the center of each flower, and cook for 10-12 minutes.

2. Hot Dog Skewers

You’ll Need (for 12):

  • 12 kabob skewers
  • 12 hot dogs
  • 2 puff pastry sheets
  • 2 whisked egg yolks for the egg wash

Here’s How:

2.1 Soak the kabob skewers in water for at least 2 hours. Preheat the oven to 350°F and brush the egg wash over each puff pastry sheet. Cut each sheet into 6 equal rectangles, roll one hot dog up in each rectangle, and cut each roll into 7 equal pieces.

2.2 Stick 7 hot dog pieces on each skewer and coat the pieces with egg wash. Place the skewers on a sheet pan lined with parchment paper and cook for 12 minutes.

3. Hot Dog Squares

You’ll Need (for 1):

  • 3 hot dogs
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • ½ cup diced bell peppers
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 tbsp grated parmesan
  • salt & pepper to taste

Here’s How:

3.1 Cut 2 hot dogs lengthwise and arrange them in a square shape in a pan over low heat.

3.2 Cut the third hot dog into small pieces. Drizzle some oil inside the hot dog square and add the chopped peppers and hot dog pieces.

3.3 Whisk the eggs, parmesan, salt, and pepper in a bowl, pour the mixture inside the hot dog square, and cook for about 10 minutes or until the eggs have set.
