We all know this one: you’ve just munched on a tasty hot dog and your lap is full of crumbs, you have ketchup and mustard in the corners of your mouth and roasted onions stuck in your teeth. And anyway, is that really a meal? A couple of good bites and that dog is long gone. Well, we’ve come up with something that will help you to avoid the messiness of hot dogs and make sure you’re good and full at the same time.
Hot Dog Salad
Equipment
- Large Bowl
Ingredients
- 5 hot dog buns
- 1 head iceberg lettuce
- 1/3 cup mustard
- 1 package hot dogs
- 1 cup ketchup
- 1 1/3 cups sliced pickles
- 2 cups shredded cheese
- 1 cup crispy fried onions
Instructions
- Toast the hot dog buns and cut them into cubes. Use half of them to line the bottom of a large bowl.
- Now layer the ingredients in the following order: half of the chopped iceberg lettuce, mustard, chopped hot dogs, ketchup, pickle slices, the other half of the iceberg lettuce, the other half of the toasted hot dog bun cubes, cheese, and finally the crispy fried onions.

The advantage of a hot dog salad: you can prepare it all in one bowl, you won’t get mouth cramps trying to take a mouthful, and you won’t spill a bunch of condiments all over your clothes. How many times have you bitten into a hot dog and had half the topping fall out the other end? Well, no more! It’s best to serve this salad right after you prepare it to keep the bread from getting soggy. Now that’s a treat… hot dog!
