Pizza for breakfast? It’s not what you think!

Alright, college students. Let’s all just admit that cold pizza for breakfast has happened more than once. Am I right? But how about a pizza breakfast that you cook from scratch, and that actually resembles breakfast? Intrigued? You might just find the ingredients are already in the fridge.

Breakfast Pizza

Prep Time 10 minutes
Cook Time 10 minutes
Total Time 20 minutes
Course Breakfast
Cuisine American
Servings 1 pizza

Equipment

  • Oven

Ingredients

  • 5 slices bread your choice
  • 1 cup ready-made Bolognese sauce
  • 2 oz shredded mozzarella
  • 1 egg
  • 4 slices ham
  • mixed lettuce

Instructions

  • Stack the slices of bread on top of each other. Cut the crusts off and then cut the bread diagonally so that you have one pointed end and one long end. Cut the tips off the bread points.
  • Arrange the bread points in a circle with the blunted points to the inside so that you get a daisy effect. Press the slices together, flat, with a spoon. Bake in the oven at 425°F for 3 minutes.
  • Distribute the Bolognese sauce around the middle of the toast points, leaving a little space at both the inner and outer edges. Gently crack an egg into a small bowl. Then slide the egg from the bowl into the middle of the toast points.
  • Sprinkle the cheese over the sauce. Bake for a further 7 minutes at 425°F.
  • Finally, decorate with ham (or prosciutto, for an authentic Italian touch) and mixed salad leaves. Voilà! Breakfast (pizza) is served!

Our advice is, make this while your roommates are still in bed… that way, no fighting over the egg. (Besides, you need the protein to make it through biochemistry class.) And for all of our alumni out there, permission to take a trip down memory lane with Breakfast Pizza is granted! I’m feeling younger myself already…
