Christmas is just around the corner, so it’s a great time to spoil yourself and your loved ones with some delicious Christmas sweets! Sweet pies, decorated sugar cookies, and roasted chestnuts are all yummy seasonal treats, but if you’re looking to mixing things up a bit this holiday season, we have some amazing original treats for you to try out! These 3 chocolate-coated Christmas cakes are all beautifully festive desserts that you can make in just a few simple steps. Christmas tree pops, bite-sized presents, and candy cane ornaments – these single-serving treats are sure to brighten up your holiday spread. They’re so delicious, they’d even make the Grinch smile!

Sponge & Chocolate Cake Bases

You’ll Need:

For the sponge cake:

  • 4 eggs
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1⅓ cups sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • ½ cup milk
  • 2½ cups flour  

For the chocolate cake:

  • 4 eggs
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1⅓ cups sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1¾ cups flour
  • ¾ cup cocoa powder 

Here’s How:

0.1 Preheat the oven to 350°F and line the bottom of a springform or cake pan with parchment paper. Beat the eggs while gradually adding in the sugar, then mix in the vanilla extract and salt. Once combined, slowly stir in the vegetable oil, add in the milk, flour, and cocoa powder if you’re making the chocolate cake. Pour the cake batter into the springform or cake pan, transfer the pan to the oven and bake at 350°F for 1 hour.

1. Christmas Trees Pops

Yield: 8

Prep Time: 30 minutes

Cooking Time: 30 minutes

Difficulty Level: Moderate

You’ll Need:

  • 10-inch round sponge cake
  • 1 lb white chocolate chips, tempered & melted
  • green food coloring
  • 8 star-shaped sprinkles
  • sprinkles
  • 8 popsicle sticks
  • piping bag

Here’s How:

1.1 Cut the cake into 8 equally sized slices. Melt some of the white chocolate chips, dip 1 end of each of the popsicle sticks into it, and stick the white chocolate-coated end of 1 popsicle stick into the outer edge of each slice of cake. Transfer the remainder of the melted white chocolate to a piping bag. 

1.2 Temper the remainder of the white chocolate chips and stir in a few drops of green food coloring. Dip the pieces of cake into the tempered green chocolate, coating the cake.

1.3 Pipe some of the melted white chocolate in a zig-zag pattern on the chocolate-coated pieces of cake and decorate them with sprinkles and 1 star-shaped sprinkle on top.

2. Bite-Sized Presents

Yield: 25

Prep Time: 1 hour

Cooking Time: 30 minutes

Difficulty Level: Moderate

You’ll Need:

  • 9 x 9-inch sponge cake 
  • 1½ lbs white chocolate chips
  • red food coloring
  • white fondant

Here’s How:

2.1 Cut the 9 x 9 inch sponge cake into 25 equally sized square pieces. Temper the white chocolate chips and stir in a few drops of red food coloring.

2.2 Stick a fork into the square pieces of cake and dip them in the tempered red chocolate, covering them completely.

2.3 Roll out the white fondant and cut it into thin strips. Use the white fondant to decorate the red chocolate-coated pieces of cake, then make bows out of the fondant and put them on top of the gifts.

3. Candy Cane Ornaments

Yield: 7

Prep Time: 25 minutes

Cooking Time: 30 minutes

Difficulty Level: Moderate

You’ll Need:

  • 10-inch round chocolate cake
  • 1 lb white chocolate chips, melted & tempered
  • gold sanding sugar
  • 7 candy canes
  • 3-inch round cookie cutter
  • slotted spatula

Here’s How:

3.1 Use the 3-inch round cookie cutter to cut 7 circular pieces out of the chocolate cake. Melt a small amount of the white chocolate chips and dip the straight ends of the candy canes in it. Insert the white chocolate-coated end of 1 candy cane into each of the circular pieces of cake. 

3.2 Temper the white chocolate chips and dip the circular pieces of cake in it, coating them completely.

3.3 Hold a slotted spatula over the white chocolate-coated pieces of cake and sprinkle gold sanding sugar on top to make decorative stripes on the ornament.
